FOREWORD
The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1924 was awarded to Willem Einthoven for his discovery of the mechanism of the electrocardiogram (ECG). Since then, this simple test has enabled physicians to save lives. Correct reading of an ECG is vital for set ting up a precise diagnosis, leading to a successful treatment.
The interpretation of the short strip of electrocardiogram may be both straightforward, as well as challenging. This textbook hopes to present a comprehensive overview of electrocardiogram readings. I commend it to readers with hope of inspiring learning and instilling familiarity with the activity of the heart.

PREFACE
This textbook is written to teach medical students to help and guide them in their early contact with cardiology. Some days in cardiology are easy and everything seems possible. But there will
be times when we need some inspiration. One of the many examples could be the first ever female president of European Society of Cardiology Professor Barbara Casadei and her answer on a question: What is the recipe for success in science, is it ambition or is it a talent? „Everybody has to have some talent and vast majority of the people do. Maybe ambition, curiosity is probably important. The most important of all is persistence. Persistence is more than anythink else. To be resiliant and never give up.“
